Snow Day in San Diego!

I can't believe the weather here in San Diego! Actually, the snow is in our local mountains about 30 miles east of our home. The snow was over a foot deep where we stopped on the Sunrise Highway in the Laguna Mountains. It was so beautiful! The kids sledded and Jim and I took a photo next to this wonderful snowman that someone created and left for all to enjoy.

A Card for my Cousin Mick

I created this card for my cousin Mick, who lives in the Monterey area. He raises bees and harvests honey in the Corral de Tierra area. He gave me a jar of honey at Thanksgiving and it is so tasty.
The card was created using the Tim Holtz birdcage die. I cut it out of corrugated cardboard and painted it with Tulip puffy paint tinted with a little reinker. I sprinkled a little glitter on the wet paint before I heated it with a heat gun to "puff" it. I was really happy with the distressed look. I started using puffy paint after reading a blog by Paulien van den Bosch. She uses this technique often and I love her work. You can click on the link on my favorite blogs or visit her blog here: www.paulienvandenbosch.blogspot.com
I then added ribbons and embellishments and a handmade paper flower. The stamped bees, of course, are to honor Mick's bee raising skills. Thanks so much Mick, the honey is fabulous!

Paris Je T'aime Cone Swap

Here is the cone that I created for the swap at last nights aRt* pArTy*!! I had a a great time creating this cone by altering a christmas cone that I purchased a few years ago at Ikea. I covered it with vintage music paper and added crepe paper and pom poms and a beautiful silver flourish embellishment that my girlfriend Rosa had given me. A vintage image of the Eiffel Tower and a few flowers complete the look. The cone is filled with goodies including French text, buttons, ribbon, flowers and more.

We will be feasting on crepes, both savory and sweet, and will be swapping Paris themed cones. (Stay tuned for swap results.) Our project for the month is creating this fabulous little crystal, and these are the kits that I have prepared for everyone. I can't wait to see what everyone makes!

Here Kitty Kitty!

My girlfriend Lorraine loves Kitties! When I saw a wooden blank Kitty at Michael's I knew I had to alter it for her. My creation is a kitty ballerina. I decoupaged text on her body, handpainted her face, created a tutu out of crepe paper and ric-rac and embellished her with some netting and some flowers. Happy dancing miss kitty! She is attached to a spring so Lorraine can help her bounce through her ballet moves.

Awesome Naval Aviation Show

This is one of the many reason that I love San Diego! Saturday the Navy performed an incredible show to celebrate 100 years of Naval Aviation. The presented all of San Diego with an air parade over our bay for 2 1/2 hours! These jets started off the parade, and there were many amazing different military aircraft from planes to helicopters to jets. Parachuters jumped out of a helicopter and landed on the Carrier USS Stennis. The culmination was a 35-jet formation! And the weather was a perfect sunny mid 70s day.
